SCHOOL INFORMATION
SCHOOL CHARTER The primary goal of the Praying Mantis Tai Chi Center is to promote health, and harmony of mind and body through the development of spirit, by the diligent practice of Chinese Martial Arts, as well as promoting Chinese Taoist philosophy, and to share authentic and highly effective fighting systems. Any sincere person who is willing to abide by the school rules, and has a genuine desire to learn may join.

The Center offers instruction in six general areas:
1) Northern Praying Mantis Gung Fu - empty hand solo, and two person sparring forms (see School Form's and History of Praying Mantis)
A complete program from beginner to instructor levels. This rare, aggressive, and highly sophisticated effective style of Chinese Gung Fu is known for it’s speed, agility and flexibility. It utilizes long range and close quarter tactics, grabbing, locking, trapping strategies, and take-down techniques. Practicing this unique style develops coordination, good reflexes, strong body, and improves mental focus and the confidence necessary to remain calm in any fighting situation.
2) Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan for Health and Self-Defense - Long Form, Toi Sao (Two-person Push Hands), Sahn Sao (Self-Defense Applications), and Tai Chi Gim (double edged Sword). (see History of Tai Chi)
This program teaches mental concentration and relaxation as well as practical, effective, yet non-aggressive self-defense techniques. By practicing Tai Chi, the mind and body relax increasing flexibility, the slow movements develop tremendous balance, and control of the body. The deep, slow, and rhythmic breathing strengthens the circulation of blood and Chi (energy) throughout the body. Learn how to use minimum force against a larger and stronger opponent.
3) Chi-Gung Acupoint Techniques builds up Health, the Mind, and the Chi (internal power/energy), as well as the Spirit. These are gentle meditative breathing techniques and physical movement forms that are combined with the knowledge of Chinese Medical Acupuncture Theory concerning blood and Chi (energy) circulation. Learn these techniques as well as Chinese Medical Theory.
4) Grappling, Locking and Release Techniques
This program known as Kam-La or Chin-Na in Chinese, offers knowledge and techniques to defend against grabs, holds and chokes. This program teaches how to immobilize assailants with highly effective subduing and controlling techniques. Students learn how to use minimum movement and force and apply scientific theories of physics, such as leverage, angular force, momentum, deflection, and redirection. These techniques utilize pressure points and joint locking methods to control and/or take down assailants.
5) Knife Defense Techniques
This program offers knowledge and techniques to defend against knife wielding assailants. All possible attack methods are covered. This program teaches how to use minimum movement and force to subdue, control, and take-down a knife wielding assailant.
6) Traditional Chinese Weaponry (solo and two person sparring forms) utilizing such weapons as: Single Saber (Broadsword) Double Saber Staff Spear Long Pole Double Edged Sword Double Daggers Three-Sectional Staff Seven-Sectional Chain Whip Long Handled Broadsword Killing Fan Double Deer Horn Swords Double Hook Swords Long Handled Axe Short Two-Sectional Staff with Saber Double Headed Spear |
